AUDACITY - THE FREE AUDIO EDITING THING!!!

Audacity is considered to be one of the best audio editors. It manages to achieve this due to the loads of excellent features it integrates while maintaining the toolbar and work space uncluttered. It can record and play sounds and import and export WAV, MP3, OGG, and AIFF files and also supports 32-bit floating-point audio. Basic effect such as reverb, delay, and compression are also included. Another eye-catching feature is the Best Analyzer, which helps you hold the beats per minute of a phrase.
To edit an audio file, you just need to select the required file. Once selected, it loads onto your screen and now you can edit the file with the aid of the mouse cursor and by keeping the duration scale as a reference. Using the effects tab, a variety of operations can be performed on the selected track after which the file can be saved in the desired audio format. Along with sound editing, audacity also features sound recording, which you can use to record uncompressed or external sounds. Audacity also has a Meter Toolbar added for monitoring volume levels during playback and recording.
The performance of most functions is quick, including tasks such as exporting to MP3 or adding complex effects which demand a large share of the CPU’s resources. Though Audacity doesn’t offer advanced features out of the box, it still stands out of the crowd.
